The benefits of homework?

This evening I decided to do some reading for class, I know crazy. I mean who actually does the reading for school!? Anyways, I was sitting here at the table doing my reading for my sewing class (which is probably why I didn't mind doing my reading) and Katie and Brooke decided to make Gooey Snickerdoodle Bars from Pioneer Woman's website Tasty Kitchen. This is the benefits of having homework because then I can sit here and watch them bake me nice treats and then I get to reap the benefits of their delicious concoctions. Yes this is simply lovely, despite the homework.

My reading
I even got to lick the beater!
Their reading
The end product! Delicious!

Something new

Today was the first day of school. I'm a junior now and I sort of feel like this is the beginning of the end for some reason. I'm half way done with college now and I still don't know what I'm going to do when I'm done. I have had a lot of mixed feelings about this new semester. I'm really excited about my classes, until I remember all the work that I will have to do. I'm excited to meet new people in my ward and my classes. I feel a little bit like an old person when I see all the smiley freshmen, and yet I still feel like I'm a little baby because I still don't know what I'm doing half the time. This past week or so I have really been thinking a lot about my life and what I want to do with it. I wish I could map out my life, but I know that in reality, no matter how much I plan, things may not work out that way and God may have something else for me to do. I don't know what I will be doing in a year or next week or even tomorrow, but I know that I want to make myself a better person. I want to commit myself to the Lord's will and become a tool in his hands. I feel like this is a really critical time in my life and I want to make sure I use this time wisely. Sometimes I wonder if I am where I am supposed to be in life, but as I look back on my experiences I realize that everything happens for a reason and I wouldn't be here right now if I wasn't here for something. I know that God has a plan for me and if I choose to live as He has asked me to then I will be blessed and be led to greater things. I plan on making this a great year and I know that through Him all things are possible.

Last week of freedom

I planned on doing cool things this week and now that the week is more than half way over I can say that I have had a great week! My highlights of the week thus far are as follows:
  1. I got a new roommate! Her name is Kenzie and she is way cool!
  2. I went to 7 Peaks with my roommates from last year, Katie and Nielle.
  3. I went to a concert with Kelly at Gurus. They were way good too! Check them out! The band is called Amiamo; they have a single on iTunes called Phone Line. Also you can't beat the amazing sweet potato fries at Gurus
  4. Last, but not least I have been impatiently waiting the near arrival of my best friend, Kaitlyn! She comes in tomorrow and she will be staying with me for the weekend before she leaves for Jerusalem!
Can't wait to see this girl!

I barely even got a tan

School starts next Monday.
I thought that I was ready for school to start, but now I don't think I am.
I feel like I still have things I want to do before the summer is over.
It seems I don't have much time left.
So in the midst of unpacking all mine and Katie's things this week I hope I can make this last week of summer enjoyable.
I'll try not to think too much about the onslaught of homework that I will encounter this semester or the amount of money I'll have to dish out for books.
I won't stress myself out before the school year has even started.
I will have fun and love summer. Well, what's left of it that is.

Cleaning: a curse and a blessing

Today is a cleaning day. We have cleaning checks tomorrow and I am really not looking forward to it. Luckily I am not moving out, but unfortunately all the rest of my roommates are. So, basically our apartment looks like a mad house. We have stuff every where! You always think that you don't have that much stuff until you move out and then you realize you are a closet hoarder! It's the worst feeling ever when you think you are pretty close to being done, but then you realize that you only cleaned out your room and now you have to find all the stuff you have sprinkled throughout your apartment. While in lieu of all this craziness going on you have to also scrub your entire apartment until it "sparkles." At the time you feel like you want to die because you would rather do anything than clean your apartment, but then when it's all over you can't help feeling a sense of accomplishment and that is a great feeling. Just to show you the craziness that is happening in our apartment, here are few pictures:
Katie is also staying over because she is homeless right now.

Why yes, this our kitchen
Basement filled to the brim
So really cleaning checks are a curse and a blessing.

Birthday Boy Nick

Today is a special day. It's Nick's birthday! I've mentioned him here. He is probably one of the coolest guys I know. I've known Nick since 7th grade, but we didn't really become friends until our junior year of high school. Nick turns 20 today and that is a reason to celebrate! This blog post is dedicated to him. Some things that make me think of Nick:

  • Superman
  • Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Hamlet
  • Pirates of the Caribbean theme song
  • Disneyland
  • Hot dog time lines
  • AP English class
  • Tower of Terror
  • Custom shoes
  • Jeeps
  • LOST
Those are just a few things that make me think of Nick. He is one of my best friends and I don't know what I would do without him. He always believes in me and has confidence in me. I have the highest respect for Nick and I wish I could be with him on his birthday so we could really celebrate. Nick you really are the best and I am so grateful to have you as a friend!

yes I am the one cowering...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!

Movie Tuesdays

This summer Katie and I have seen a lot of movies. So far this summer we have seen King's Speech, Monte Carlo, Green Lantern, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Captain America, and Thor. (I think are more than that, but I can't think of all of them.) This evening we saw X-Men: First Class. So. Good. We just recently discovered $5 Tuesdays at the Wynnsong Theater here in Provo and we are taking full advantage of this! Between Wynnsong and the dollar theater we are set to see a movie every week for either $5 or $1! It's the best deal ever! Now Tuesdays have officially been dubbed Movie Tuesdays! I plan on trying to continue this new tradition during the school year.
Some other movies that are on my list: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Super 8, The Help, and Cowboys and Aliens.
I really love movies.
