Sew fun!

Excuse my cheesy title, but I couldn't help myself.
As many of you probably know, I love to sew! I started sewing my sophomore year of high school and ever since then I have loved it. In high school I decided that it is something that I want to do for the rest of my life and so I decided to major in clothing construction (it's not the actual name of the major, but it just sounds cooler when I say that). I have a sewing machine and a serger that I have been toting around with me for the past couple years as I have moved to different apartments, but this is the first year that I have actually had a place for my sewing machine. My roommate and I transformed our basement into a craft room so now we have a place to be creative and not worry too much about putting things away when guests come over.
So far this summer I haven't really utilized it, but this past week I finally took advantage of the room and made these:
I made view A, the shorts and I think they turned out pretty good! Here they are:

Now I need to figure out what my next project is! I'm thinking a mustard yellow dress....
On a similar note, Project Runway Season 9 just started tonight and I'm already hooked! Whenever I watch Project Runway I get inspired to want to do high fashion and all that stuff; it doesn't usually come to anything, well it hasn't yet at least, but it's still fun to dream. Oh, also one of the designers is Mormon! Unfortunately, he was almost out tonight, not a good start, but I have high hopes for him!

Because I haven't seen enough red, white, and blue this month

I saw Captain America last night with Katie. I loved it! Seriously so good. If you haven't seen it yet, go now. I mean you can't go wrong with something like this:
I mean let's be real. How could you not like this! You have a way cool, super human guy that is just as attractive on the inside as he is on the outside and he kicks butt! Oh and I loved Peggy's makeup; I wish I could pull of red lipstick.
Maybe I'll try it out sometime.
My friend Nick posted something on his Facebook that made me laugh. I hope he doesn't mind that I'm putting it on my blog. For those of you who don't know Nick, this is him:
Anyways, he wore his Captain America shirt to go see Captain America and he asked his mom, "Hey Mom, what'd ya think? Do I look like Captain America?" She replied with "More like Captain South America." Ha so funny. Nick (since I know you will read this) just so you know I think you would make a great Captain America.

Mona Lake

Yesterday I got the day off from work because of Pioneer Day (it's a big deal in Utah)! So I spent the day with friends. We started our day with brunch at Elsa and Brian's. I tried grits for the first time! They were pretty good...I think...well it was in a breakfast casserole and I liked that so that means I liked the grits, right? Well anyways after brunch we played Pit. If you haven't played this game before, you should because it is so fun! It's based off of the stock market and it's just a crazy, loud game; exactly what I like in a game. Then we went to Mona Lake. If you are not from Utah Valley you probably have no idea where this is or what it is. Mona Lake is about 30 minutes south of Provo. It is famous for it's rope swings and basically it is mandatory for every college student in Utah Valley to go at least once. You can't really call it a lake, it's more of a deep pond. The water is pretty murky and it smells a little funny, but I guess that is all just part of the adventure. There were a TON of people there because I guess everyone had the same idea as us to go on a holiday. Although I didn't go on the rope swing (so what! I'm a chicken!), it was really scary fun watching everyone go off. Then we went to Big Burger, possibly the only place to get a burger in Mona. They had great burgers and I also recommend their shakes!

Another holiday in July

Another reason to like Utah: we get a second holiday in July! Thank you pioneers for traveling so far to settle in Utah and to therefore give us a holiday. So Pioneer Day is this weekend and that means more fireworks and a 4 day weekend for me! Woo!
And here is a video that I absolutely LOVE! It doesn't have anything to do with Pioneer Day, but I just love it. Kid history is the best.

Mother Dearest

I feel like such a terrible daughter. I've blogged about my dad twice and not once for my mom! I'm sorry mom. This post goes out to you.
I love talking to my parents. They are the best. I mean really they are. I was talking to my mom today like I do every day and she said that the best thing about modern technology is that she can talk to her kids everyday and I completely agree. I talk to my mom at least twice a day sometimes more. She is always willing to talk even when I don't really have anything to update her on. My mom always gives the best advice, even when I already know what I need to do. She always believes in me and tells me I can do whatever I set my mind to. I don't know what I would do without my mom. I love her so much.
I adore this picture. My dad is a cheese ball and my mom loves him for it. :)

Vegas baby!

This weekend I took a little trip to Las Vegas with my friends Sian-Amy and Jenni. We stayed with some friends of Sian-Amy's that were on holiday for a couple of weeks. Although I always talk about how I hate Vegas, I decided to take the opportunity of a road trip. From this trip I learned:

  • I really do hate Vegas
  • 80 MPH test zones are the best because then you can go 90 MPH and not even feel bad
  • Having a BMW follow you for 2.5 hours isn't creepy it actually brings you closer and eventually you will name him and you will be very sad when he gets off in Beaver
  • English accents are great and I wish I could imitate one well
  • English people say Adidas like add-dee-dass
  • Don't wear your favorite sandals to walk down the strip because they will get dirty and then break
  • Grim and holla are great words to use
  • Even if you hate Vegas good friends and shopping makes it worth it :)

Mischief Managed

Friday July 15, 2011 12:00am. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Amazing. Like I said in my previous post, Harry Potter will live on forever, but for now it is the end. There was craziness and Harry Potter fanatics. It was great. I laughed, I cried, I smiled. I love Harry Potter.

The end is near

Tomorrow night I will sit in a theater and I will watch the final installment of a most beloved series: Harry Potter. It makes me sad to think that it will all be over, but let me tell you that Harry Potter will still live on. He will not be forgotten. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have found a way into our hearts and there they will stay. So here's to a thrilling time and although there is no more to come it has been the best years growing up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione by my side!
I'm a bit excited.

4th of July Recap

I've been neglecting my poor blog this week. I'm sorry. I did a ton of stuff and I was too lazy to catch up, but here I am to get up off my sorry butt and lame excuses.
So Fourth of July it was almost a week ago, but I figure since I still saw fireworks going off last night that it is still ok to post about it. In my last post I really wasn't kidding about how Provo likes to celebrate the 4th for the entire week, but I guess it's more like the week before and the week after so more like 2 weeks. I went to Stadium of Fire on Saturday and saw the most AMAZING fireworks that I have ever seen in my life. Seriously, they were amazing! Oh and I saw David Archuleta and Brad Paisley! It was great. Loved every moment. Then on Sunday night I camped out for the parade the next morning. The camping out part was more fun than the parade. Then that night we (Katie, Brooke, Elsa, Brian, Brandon, Matt, and I) went to Elsa and Brian's home for a BBQ. It was so fun! We ate great food, I had my first experience with the game Pit (play it, you will love it) and we lit fireworks/watched all of Provo light up.
Butterbeer snow cones!

The rest of this week has been full of friends, movies, food, homecomings (welcome back Sian-Amy and Holly) and I got my first bug bites of the summer (there are 8 so far) I've been lucky to make it this far! This week is looking promising for more fun, even if Katie is leaving me to go on a cruise to Mexico...

Fireworks all week? OK I can deal with that!

Happy 4th of July weekend!!!

List of things I'm doing/done this weekend:
Dinner with Katie to celebrate her new job [check]
Go see Monte Carlo [check]
Rooftop concert [check]
Eat shaved ice (done this once, but I'll probably do it again)
Watch fireworks go off for the whole week
Church :)
Parade
Eat BBQ food
Hang out with friends and family
Watch more fireworks

I decided everyone deserves to spend 4th of July in Provo. It is seriously the most patriotic place ever and I love it! I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
